SUBWOOFERS

The Epik Caliber represents an almost unrivalled amount of subsonic performance at its price point. It builds on everything that our Knight subwoofer can do, but takes it a step beyond those capabilities. Most notably, the low end is louder and extends even deeper.

The Caliber starts with the same high power handling, high excursion 15” driver as the Knight. The cabinet however is a larger and more efficient design. Even the cabinet’s tuning has been lowered to get you the kind of bass that you can’t hear, but can only feel. You know, the stuff that makes your furniture shake when you are listening to organ music or a spaceship on your favorite action DVD. The good stuff!

The cabinet very effectively extends the reach of the driver even deeper into the subsonic realm of low frequency bass. This is normally a very difficult and expensive thing to achieve. Most mass market subwoofers at the same price and even some of the very expensive offerings from high end companies can’t come close to the Caliber’s low end output. It goes well below 20 Hz with ease.

Like all Epik subwoofers, the Caliber’s cabinet is precision CNC cut and hand-assembled in our own factory. The attention to detail and manufacturing is second-to-none. It features a heavily braced cabinet with plenty of internal airflow and rigidity. It also sports an enormous patented 6” flared high flow port to handle even the most intense low bass.

The Caliber’s cabinet was designed to truly let its 15” driver take full advantage of the lowest frequencies. The increased internal volume has the same effect of using a much larger amplifier on the low end. The difference is that the Caliber is able to achieve this increase in extreme low frequency output without additional thermal compression and stress on the driver.

This design choice leads to very natural and low distortion playback. Dumping more power into our driver will make it play louder, but it will also make it distort more and heat up much faster. Instead, our cabinet achieves the same thing and even more without degrading its sonic performance. In fact, the lower tuning and larger volume improves the response time of the subwoofer as well as lowering group delay. An amplifier just can’t do that.

Cabinets are typically the most expensive part of a subwoofer system. That is why the majority of our competitors try to use more power and a smaller cabinet. Epik’s cabinet making abilities allows us to offer a cabinet of this size and quality and still beat our competitors on price and performance.

Once again, you do not have to choose between low and loud.  The fantastic driver and cabinet give you both. This makes setup and use very simple with no compromises.

Any way you look at it, the Caliber is a force to be reckoned with. For those who don’t want to spend over $1000 but still want to fill their listening room or home theater with the lowest and cleanest bass possible, the Caliber is a no-brainer. Get ready to rumble…
