The driver in the Epik Tower has been designed to produce higher output levels than our other 15 inch driver. This meant sticking to design principals that apply to great sound and performance but improving other aspects of the driver. Everything about this driver that applies to performance has been upgraded significantly.

The design is still centered around a 15 inch cone. The effective cone area is the same, but the cone itself has some different features. To handle greater pressure, we use a thicker paper/pulp cone that is has Kevlar fibers running through it. The stiffness to weight ratio of this cone is superior compared to any other materials we have tried and measured. The cone and surround are also a proven design that can be relied upon to work flawlessly for years and years.

We also use a large one-piece poly dust cap that covers the entire cone from the front. The result is two different rigid shapes keeping the cone from flexing. The paper/pulp Kevlar portion of the moving structure is conical in shape. The poly dust cap is a perfect dome. When both parts are combined, the resulting dual-structure exhibits improved rigidity at any volume or excursion level. It acts like a perfect piston with no flex.

The motor section of the driver has also been increased in size and abilities. It still features a triple stack magnet like our other 15 inch driver, but the magnets are even larger in diameter. The improved magnetic strength allows the driver to provide even more output at the low tuning of the enclosure. Sound quality and performance also receive an improvement thanks to the extra control over the cone and lowered distortion.

To keep up with larger excursion demands and more pressure generated by the cone, the driver also features an even larger diameter voice coil. The coil still uses lightweight aluminum, but it has twice the surface area versus our other driver.

Thanks to the larger coil design, it can handle almost twice the power. The large surface area of the voice coil also allows it to dissipate more heat. The ability to handle more power and cool faster results in greater dynamic ability regardless of output levels.
